What whitening involves

Health check, then in-chair whitening or custom trays with professional gel — plus after-care for sensitivity and staining.

Health check

Decay and gum disease must be treated first — whitening on unhealthy teeth hurts and fails.

FAQs

Honest expectations

What whitening can and cannot do

Crowns, veneers, and large fillings will not change shade. These accordions cover candidacy, sensitivity, professional versus supermarket kits, and keeping results.

Who it suits

Healthy teeth with yellowing from food, drink, or age. You need a recent exam — start with hygiene if it has been a while.

Not ideal during pregnancy or for children under 16.

Sensitivity

Temporary cold sensitivity is common. We use desensitising products and adjust strength if needed.

Tell us if you already have sensitive teeth before we begin.

Supermarket kits vs professional

Professional gel is stronger and trays fit better, so results are more even with less gum irritation.

We still quote in writing and do not whiten over untreated decay.

Keeping the shade

Coffee, red wine, and smoking stain faster after whitening. Water after dark drinks helps.

Touch-up gel is available when appropriate — ask at your review.

The process

How you get this done

From exam to whiter teeth — the usual sequence.

  1. Exam

Check decay, gums, and existing restorations.

  2. Quote

Choose in-chair or take-home professional option.

  3. Whiten

Treatment session or tray delivery with instructions.

  4. Review

Check shade and sensitivity; plan touch ups if wanted.

Honest answers

If something is holding you back

Sensitivity, cost, and how white is realistic.

Sensitivity?

Often mild and short. We can slow the protocol.

Cost

Quote after exam. Extras rebates vary — ask at booking.

How white?

Natural improvement, not Hollywood white unless you want that discussed.

Crowns and fillings

They will not lighten. We point out mismatches before you start.

Start with a check if it has been more than a year.
