Dental emergencies

Toothache that keeps your child awake, swelling near a tooth, or a filling that has come loose needs a prompt look — especially on baby teeth. Book an urgent slot online or contact the clinic and we will help you decide how soon to come in.

  • Same day if possible
  • Children first
  • Quote before treatment

At the visit

What an emergency visit includes

Quick history, clinical exam, x-rays when needed, pain relief, and a clear plan — treat now, monitor, or refer when something is beyond what we can fix in the chair.

Triage the pain

We ask what started, how bad it is, and whether there is swelling, fever, or trauma.

Steps

Relieve and assess

Exam, x-rays if needed, then local anaesthetic or medication when appropriate.

Steps

Plan next steps

Fillings, pulp care, extraction, or antibiotics — quoted before we proceed.

FAQs

Before you come

What counts as an emergency

Not every sore tooth needs the same day — but some signs should not wait. These accordions help you decide when to ring and what to mention when you book.

Toothache and swelling

Pain that wakes your child, keeps them from eating, or comes with a swollen cheek or gum needs a prompt visit.

Mention swelling when you book so we allow enough time.

Knocks and chips

Fresh trauma after a fall or sport may belong on our trauma page — same-day rules apply.

Save any tooth fragments in milk and come in the same day when possible.

Lost fillings or crowns

A loose or missing restoration can leave a tooth sensitive and at risk of further damage.

Bring the piece if you have it. We may rebond, replace, or plan a new crown.

When to call 000 first

Heavy bleeding that will not stop, trouble breathing, or head injury with loss of consciousness needs emergency medical care first.

After that, contact the clinic for dental follow-up. Open seven days — book online and note it is urgent.

The process

How you get this done

Typical emergency visit from call to treatment plan.

  1. Call or book

Describe the pain, swelling, or what happened so we triage the slot.

  2. Examine

Clinical look and x-rays when the cause is not obvious.

  3. Relieve

Pain control and any immediate fix we can safely do today.

  4. Plan

Written quote for follow-up care — pulp, filling, crown, or extraction.

Honest answers

If something is holding you back

After-hours worry, cost, and whether baby teeth can wait.

Is tonight too late?

Severe swelling or uncontrolled pain should not wait until morning. Ring us and we will advise.

Emergency cost

Exam and x-rays are quoted before treatment. CDBS may apply for eligible children.

Baby tooth ache?

Baby teeth still matter for spacing and eating. We treat or extract with a plan for what comes next.

Child scared and tired

You stay in the room. We go slowly, take breaks, and only proceed when your child is ready.

Book urgent care

Book an urgent slot online or ring the clinic — say it is toothache or swelling so we prioritise the appointment.
